The Regional Workshop on Equitable Access to Water and Sanitation and the 14th meeting of the Task Force on Target Setting and Reporting | UNECE
The Regional Workshop on Equitable Access to Water and Sanitation under the UNECE-WHO/Europe Protocol on Water and Health took place in Budapest, Hungary, on 11 and 12 December 2024.
The Regional Workshop was held back-to-back with the 14th meeting of the Task Force on Target Setting and Reporting | UNECE (13 December 2024).
The Regional Workshop on Equitable Access to Water and Sanitation was organized by the Governments of France, Hungary, North Macedonia, and the Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union with support from the joint secretariat of the UNECE-WHO/Europe Protocol on Water and Health.
The main objectives of the Regional Workshop are to:
- Launch the revised Equitable Access Score-card 2.0 and discuss how the newly introduced dimensions can be leveraged to align with global and regional water, sanitation, hygiene, and health processes. - Explore how the Protocol on Water and Health can support countries in implementing the relevant equity provisions of the EU Drinking Water Directive and the Urban Waste Water Treatment Directive, particularly considering the specific needs of vulnerable and marginalized communities.
The main objectives of the meeting of the Task Force are to:
- Review progress by Parties and other States in setting, revising and implementing their targets, in accordance with article 6 of the Protocol, with a particular focus on targets related to equitable access to water, sanitation, hygiene and health;
- Launch the 6threporting cycle under the Protocol and review the features of the new online reporting system;
- Review progress with the implementation of the water-, sanitation- and hygiene-related targets of the Sustainable Development Goals;
- Review implementation of the programme of work of the Task Force on Target Setting and Reporting for 2023-2025 and reflect on the thematic priorities to be considered and/or strengthened in the future programme of work for 2026-2028.
